Alberta Innovates Study
Alberta Innovates Technology Futures concludes study – homes using the PowerCost Monitor™ reduced electricity consumption by 9% overall and up to 16.7% for those with electric hot water heaters.
The three year electricity consumption data for all participants was normalized based on the weather and survey data using a statistical algorithm. The analysis of the data has provided the following major conclusions:
- An overall reduction of about 9% in electricity consumption
- Households using electric water heating and electric heating showed an overall higher percentage reduction in their electricity consumption, at 17% and 14% respectively

By enrolling in peaksaverPLUS, you can join the other Ontario households working together to manage our electricity use. PLUS, you will receive a FREE Energy Display to help you see and manage your electricity use at home all year.
How does the program work? Once you are enrolled in peaksaverPLUS, a technician will come to your home at a convenient time to install a small load management device on your central air conditioner, electric water heater or inground pool pump. Once the device is installed, it can be remotely activated to slightly reduce your appliance’s electricity demand. The program will never be activated on weekends or statutory holidays. If you previously enrolled in peaksaver®, you must reapply to participate in peaksaverPLUS. For new and continuing participants, signing up for peaksaverPLUS will make you eligible to receive a free Energy Display that will help you see and manage your electricity use at home.
